I heard about a fun Lego event hosted at UVU called Brick Slopes. It is all about Legos. The boys and I had a wonderful time attending this event. I have a feeling we will keep returning now that we know about it.
Peter really wants Brandon to buy this game, so I had to take a picture of it to show Papa.
The giant area of free build with Legos. Peter and Luke both got frustrated because they couldn't find the pieces they wanted.

Visiting Papa at work
I am relearning the lesson of not taking anything for granted. This building is where Brandon works at UVU. He has been working for the purchasing department at UVU for the past 10 years. Five of those years have been in this office building. In fact, his office is the small window at the top right of this picture. When they were designing this building he knew that would be his office, so he made some adjustments to it to facilitate the biggest possible space. It is a beautiful office, with loads of natural light coming from windows on the north and west side.
Anyway, I digress a bit. Earlier this month, he applied for a job at SLCC for the position of director. The director there is retiring after decades of working there. Brandon knew he would be the perfect fit, and a chance like this in his industry rarely happens. So, he applied, interview, 2nd interviewed, and was offered the position. We are awaiting the official salary offer right now. He will start on August 16th.
I am so very sad about the entire change. While I am happy that Brandon will have a chance to spread his wings as a director, I am experiencing extreme grief at having to leave this place. We have grown so close to many of Brandon's employees, and the office almost seems an extension of our home. We often go to visit Papa at work, and we try and take picnic lunches there too. It will be difficult when it comes time to say his final good-byes. The boys will be especially sad when we have to return the ipad Brandon uses for work. They have gotten very attached to that electronic device.

Helping Grandma
Last week my parents left town to go and visit my sister in Ozark, Missouri. Grandma asked us to go down a few times while they were gone to check the mail. Well, we ended up also helping them out by watering their lawn a few times while they were gone. Since they don't have a sprinkling system, it takes hours and hours to water it.
While I was adjusting the sprinkler in the backyard I saw a birds nest that must have just fallen out of the large tree in the backyard. I quickly went into the house and told the boys to come out and see what I had just found. Peter was thrilled. We took it back into the house and found this little birdie that Grandma keeps in her houseplant. The size of the nest ended up perfect for this little bird. Peter was so excited about it.
Since Grandma doesn't have a TV, we have to come up with creative things to do while we are visiting. Peter decided to color super hero's for himself, and Luke. Then, they took these pictures and were playing a game with them. I was thrilled with their ability to entertain themselves, since that doesn't happen as much as I would like it too.
Luke was very excited when Peter drew him a picture of The Hulk. We still have that green guy hanging around here at the house.
They also asked me to draw a picture. For some reason, whenever I start to draw something, I always resort to drawing a house with large trees, or a park (swing set included) with large trees and a bright yellow sun. I wonder if subconciously I am returning to my happy childhood memories of safety and fun times.
Just as we were getting in the car to leave I noticed a cat sitting underneath the clunker car my Dad keeps around because he wants to fix it. Nearby was a bird that it had caught. The poor bird was still alive and the last thing I wanted that cat to have was the satisfaction of eating that poor bird. Can you tell I despise cats? So I hollered for the boys to get out of the car and come keep the cat away so I could get a shovel out of the garage to move the bird to safety. Sadly, while I was getting a shovel the small bird gave one last all-or-nothing effort and died. Peter watched the entire thing and he was quite sad about it.
So, we held our first little birdie funeral. I must admit I got tears in my eyes when I thought of the tiny bird soaring in the heavens above - perhaps even flying nearby my brother. Peter was also pretty sad about it. But we created a lovely place under the lilacs for it, and even put some current berries there so the bird could look down from heaven and remember what a lovely thing berries are. Spending time in the "country" really does teach you life lessons that you wouldn't figure out any other way. My boys are anxious to return and tell Grandma all about the small burial place. I wonder if this will be one of those rare experiences that Peter will remember of his childhood.

Fireman's breakfast
Grandpa Thomas is a firefighter with Pleasant Grove City. Every year, the fire house organizes a pancake breakfast. It has been a few years since we've gone, but this year we decided we should go again and support Grandpa. It was the perfect weather for us when we got there. It was overcast with the threat of sprinkling. The boys gobbled up their pancakes and then they were off to play with cousins.
Their is also a park area right by the station so the boys and their cousins went and played while the grown-ups chatted.
A few months ago, the fire station got a fire dog. My boys loved playing with 'Arson' who is extremely gentle and does really well with crowds of people. I just can't get over how awesome it is that they have a fire dog.

Summer Fun with neighbors
The neighborhood we live in is phenomenal. Every week during the summer there is a planned summer activity to do as a large group. On this particular summer morning, we met at the Hess home and enjoyed their amazing backyard. There was also a feast for the kids (cookies, popcorn, veggie tray, drinks), plus a painting activity. My boys were in heaven. Luke loved the tramp and swing. Peter loved doing the scavenger hunt and playing on the swing set. I loved just being able to sit and chat with amazing neighbors.
Jolley's Ranch
Early in the month we were able to participate in a Homeschool fieldtrip to Jolley's Ranch. It's a little park in the nearby mountains that has a large playground and a nearby stream. We spent a few hours here with our homeschool mom's. It was the perfect summer day, especially to play in the water. The boys absolutely loved playing in the stream. They both crossed it numerous times. You can always tell when the boys have had fun, because they come home dripping wet and muddy.
