Me

Hi, I'm Laurie Ann. I feel like the last few months I've forgotten who I am.

I am a Daughter of a Loving Father in Heaven.
I am a Mother of two uniquely remarkable boys.
I am a Homeschool teacher and find true joy in teaching my children.
I am a reader. I get lost in books and consequently don't indulge often.
I am a mother that loves to read to my boys.
I am a yogi. I find inner peace and mental contentment with regular practice.
I am a lover of black licorice, jolly ranchers, and gummy candy.
I am a chocolate objector.
I am a cook and baker. I find great joy making creations in the kitchen.
I am an online teacher for Qkids - a Chinese based online English program.
I am a people person and an introvert. The pandemic restrictions are heavenly for me.

Ponderings

Did mental illness exist in the time of the Book of Mormon? I've been thinking a lot about that this week.

Frankenstein

The ladies in my neighborhood have a book club. We recently read Frankenstein and met last night to dicuss the book. It was so fun! We went over to Sarah's house and talked about it while sitting around her fire pit.

I never saw myself someone who would read this book. I completly shocked myself when I finished and actually enjoyed it. There were so many deep applications that Mary Shelley hid within its pages. I would actually highly recommend the book. It was especially fun to read it during October.

No1

I had a very young student today whose name was No1. Throughout class I called him number one. When I was finished with class Luke was already in the office with me. He said the student was very smart because he put his name down as No one instead of the word number one.

Spooky Science

This week for science we learned about the different ways water molecules react to diffuse different colors. The boys had a blast playing with the food coloring. Even T's little 3 year old sister came over and joined in the fun. She and I had a blast working together.

We discovered that food coloring over ice looks really gross and yucky - especially at Halloween time. It was fascinating to see the patterns it created. These boys do much better when science is hands on.

I like you because.....

Today I read this cute story in the October friend. It inspired me to....

I put them in the bathroom where they will see them first thing in the morning. Neither boy enjoys writing so I eliminated a fight and just wrote for them. I hope they think they are silly and deep down really enjoy them.

Luke

I hung up this sign (that I found in the October Ensign) in my bathroom last night. After Luke's nighttime bath he told me he feels all those things on the left and none of those things on the right.

He is struggling and it's so hard to know what to do. We recently decided visiting with a trained and professional therapist might be helpful. So far Luke seems to be greatful to talk to someone other than me. He never wants me in the session with him, but he will ocassionally make a comment about a scenerio Jeff told him in regards to self regulating feelings. I hope he continues to enjoy it.

Missing Link

The boys are having a fun time with their animation class. I'm actually really glad we picked this My Tech High Direct class. They are working on the art of stop motion animation. So, this week we found a movie that was created entirely thru stop motion. It was a cute movie and the boys liked it too which is always a plus.

Tidbits

General Conference watching with Luke was hilarious. Most of the time he was watching with me...but every now and again he would wander upstairs and do something. While he was sitting by me he thought it would be funny to take some pictures with my phone filter. He thinks they are so funny! We bought some treats for him to eat while the session was going on. I had intended for him to attach special words to each kind of treat so he could spread the yumminess out. Nope, he didn't want that and had all the treats gone before noon.

I also had the crazy idea to trim his hair today. It decided at 8:45am and thirty minutes later it was done. I need to fix it a little bit on Monday, but it actually turned out the way I sorta wanted it too. This is the style that is popular on boys right now....super long on the top and super short all the way around. I've never tried to do it before today. I hope Peter will let me do it to him too. Probably on Monday. We have family pictures coming up in two weeks and I want to have enough time for the slight imperfections to grow out.

My mums grew massive again this year. They are really so happy in the front yard where I put them. I think this year I will dig them out because.....they get too tall. Once they start blooming the tiniest bit of wind makes them collapse. This year when they fell over I just cut them all and then invited my neighbors to come and get some for centerpieces. I probably had at least 10 people come. I was glad they didn't go to waste.
